CAR

The topic of whether or not text messaging is affecting the literacy of the young generation has become a relevant issue today. Some feel that messaging has severely affected proper grammar and others think that it has only helped improve spelling and writing. What I have found is that many people do have concerns about this topic or they have never even thought of it. I am here to discuss what we know, do not know, why it is important, give my findings, and discuss how I feel about text messaging. How has text messaging affected the grammar of our young generation, and how is it affecting their writing?

ch. 7&8

The research I have been doing for Core 4 would be a combination of arguments and factual. It is a combination of both of these because I am giving information and facts describing what I have found in my research as well as explaining what the topic entails. As said in Lunsford, I have been trying to make a claim about where I stand on this issue and have an argument, but also am going to try and explain what others feel about this and maybe explain why I think that they feel that way. I will also try and support my research and try and back-up my arguments and research.

I will also try and create an argument that has definition as it says to do so in chapter 8 of Lunsford. All of this research will be a combination because I am not only just giving facts about the topic but I will give my input on what each research article is about and state whether I agree with their claims or not. There might be some articles that I do agree with but others that I feel that are completely off balance. I will do my best to try and make my argument present and understandable. Also, I will have to see which research articles I agree with and which ones I do not and pick where I want to agree and disagree. I have to pick which facts that I have found that I agree with and be able to stay with that and explain why I agree.

In Core 4 I will present my topic and my research and describe what the issues of the topic are about. Also I will explain my research and what we know and do not know about this topic. I also want to let others know why I care about this topic and what outcome I want to see come out if it. And I want others to know why we should care and explain how it could be possibly affecting them as well and not just the young generation.

I feel that my paper is indeed a combination of an argument as well as a definition of facts. It is an argument because I will be stating my opinions on the topic and stating how I feel about some research that I do not agree with on terms of their findings. The paper will be factual because I will give facts pertaining to the issue as well as describing what it is and why it has become an issue in the grammar and literacy world. Not only will this paper benefit those who care about the subject, it might even be a wake up call to the younger generation who will read it and find that they need to keep proper grammar alive and really understand what messaging has done to their own personal education. It will let them know that they are the ones holding themselves back form knowing how to be grammatically correct so maybe they will start to see that they can write correctly, but also write in message style form when not for education purposes.

reflection of research

The conversation about my topic which is how is text messaging affecting literacy is biased. Some say that text messaging is affeting this generation of children and students literacy because the grammar is being used improperly. Also that this generation is losing the proper way to write in sentences and with proper subject, predicate form. The other conversation that is going around is those who are saying that text messaging is only helping, not destroying writing. Some researchers are saying that it is helping with the writing of children because they can easily know how to abbreviate and use the correct form of words when needed and can easily switch from text language to proper language.

I do not necessarily have any problems, however I do think that I need to find a few more articles that state different arguments and opinions. Rather than have more that agree with each other than disagree, I need to find some that think text messaging is not affecting literacy.
